If you don't have much time to browse, this is the ideal place to get a quick idea of what I am currently focusing on.
I am now posting new photographic images in the New Directions page, rather than the main body of the site. I have recently moved more into the "graphic" rather than the "photo". Greater levels of abstraction, and an increased interest in naturally occuring pattern, have resulted in me using some of my imagery in textile designs. You can see a good selection of my recent photographic art work on the Solo Exhibitions page.
Following a painting course in 2008 I have realised the importance of devoting more time to painting and also to the study of those painters who have gone before me. I am not seeking any kind of stylistic unity in my painting, as I see it as an exploration which must take me along with it, not the other way round. I am also currently very opposed to the idea of my painting being merely a product. I see my painting as the main push forward in my artistic practice and I am working hard on my life drawing and general drawing skills in order to feed these into the experiments I am currently involved in with paint.
Painting has become the main area of my practice and I am currently orientated towards allowing myself as much time as possible to get to know the medium more and also to experiment with several different types of paint, using a variety of styles. I look on the next few years as a time of concentrated study.

Presently my painting is a mixture; sometimes involving recognisable subject matter and sometimes not.
Last year I worked on several new poems which were displayed as part of my solo exhibition at Leatherhead Theatre. I came second in the 2009 "Literary Mary" poetry competition. However, apart from my blog/journal and a very occasional poem now and again, I have now stopped writing in order to free up more time for painting.
I started manipulating metal in 2005, and it continues to be a favourite material. I get new ideas from experimenting with different media. I also find it beneficial to work on three dimensional constructions alongside my painting and drawing. As well as working in the forge when I get the opportunity, I have started to experiment with clay. Take a look in the Sculpture section of the website.
I have had two solo exhibitions so far, one in 2009 and another in January 2010. See the Solo Exhibitions page to see videos of the work on show.
Future...
Painting and drawing remain a priority. I see the next five years as a chance to develop my painting. I need funding for training and would like to continue this through short courses at West Dean College plus local adult education centres, as this gives me space to absorb what I am learning. Any donations / West Dean College gift vouchers are very welcome. Contact me if you wish to contribute in this way. My work is currently unpaid, apart from a few paintings and photographs I sell from time to time.
