I am a painter/designer/multi-disciplinary artist based in Surrey/South West London, United Kingdom. I produce both personal, small scale artworks (mainly paintings) as well as working on commissioned art for other people.
Painting is the dominant thrust of my practice, and I use both oils and acrylics for smaller paintings while preferring ecologically friendly paints for larger work. My personal paintings explore pretty much whatever I want them to, with paintings for other people guided by external requirements. My work tends to be process orientated, but I do involve a lot more planning and design in larger paintings and in paintings for particular purposes. In the past I worked intensively (2006 - 2008) with digital photography, and my work with metal, poetry, paint, and other media, related to, and was often intergrated with, photography. During 2008 I continued to experiment in various ways with relationships between different media. From 2009 onwards I started devoting more time to the development of my painting and drawing, as the greater powers of expression offered were too attractive to resist. From 2010, I experimented with several different types of natural and mineral paint, acrylics and oils, and now most of my time is spent with painting and printmaking.
I view my work as a natural and evolving process which is primarily to do with the emotions and spirit; the work itself is the main signifier...an articulation of fragmentary experience. I find certain areas of interest re-emerge, and the natural environment is a constant source of inspiration, along with the expression of my own personal life journey. My work has many different strands, and I enjoy this diversity. I have no desire to restrict my work to any particular style or subject matter in an artificial way. My faith underpins my artistic contemplation and production; the mystery of faith and of reality beyond the limitations of a human rational mindset is something which motivates me. Alongside my personal paintings, I enjoy working with other people creatively and I’ve recently started using my past teaching experience in combination with my current practice which is something I would like to continue with.
