Presentation: Currently A4 photographic print on metallic paper (size and substrate flexible)
This image of Oxshott Woods in Surrey was taken in Autumn, not Winter, but the digital manipulation of it has given it surreal snow.
"New Bolt" 2007
Presentation; A3/A2 Digital C-Print (glossy or satin paper).
One of a series of images taken in Chessington and Hook. I love the way a photograph takes in every detail of textured surfaces, and I like experimenting with different compositions. I see this kind of photography as a kind of "eye training"; an exercise in both looking for subject matter and also in presenting it in a way which is aesthetically pleasing.
"Hinge Painting" Jenny Meehan 2007
"Ariel View" 2007
Presentation: Digital C-Print, behind glass, A2 maximum size. (Also in black and white)
One of the most enjoyable aspects of using a camera is the way that the rectangular viewfinder so easily encloses and isolates an area, removing our sense of scale and forcing us to look at a mall fragment of a larger area in a new way. I love this concentration on the initially ordinary surfaces so often trodden on without a thought. It brings about quite a child-like perspective; closer to the ground than an adult and taking and interest in the smallest things; very characteristic of a dawdling child, walking as slowly as possible, and oblivious to the rest of the world. The removal of a sense of scale can also make us feel quite big by giving us an aerial view.
Presentation: Ink-Jet Print on Smooth Matt A3 Paper.
"Girl Aged 8" 2006
Presentation: Ink-Jet Print on A3 Canvas.
Also as a projection onto a A3 canvas block.
This is my daughter, and below my thinking;
In this image there is a certain harshness which seems to force itself on her still, so young, sense of who she is. I have got some softer images but I forced this one (just like she is being forced to grow up so quickly) It is a subject I feel quite strongly about. She is, of course, not old enough to get married, but in terms of what she is being sold (and told) by the media, she might as well be. Her innocent dressing up games often reveal poignant immaturity, which reminds me of how young she really is.

So far from a glossy magazine cover. There are many kinds of abuses of power in the world, some leave obvious marks and others do not.
If you would like to purchase anything please contact me either using the contact page or email me at j.meehan@tesco.net. Though this gallery contains work with very specific presentation methods, I also print many of my images on a supply on demand basis, for particular people or events, so the presentation can, in many cases, be quite flexible. See the Photography main page for more information on Numbered Editions.
Alternatively, a limited selection of imagery is available for sale as unsigned poster prints through my Jenny Meehan Imagery Gallery on Photobox. Follow the link;
A video of photographic work displayed at the CornerHouse Community Arts Centre in January 2010 as part of my second solo exhibition can be viewed on the Solo Exhibitions page and more recent photographic work is found in New Directions.
