Some of the work in this section could be called "mixed media", but it all involves mark making. Along side my visual interpretations, personal expression, and the development of my ability to accurately see the subject, I aspire to capture what I can only describe as the centre. It's the point at which I feel some communication. Work here dated 2009 and earlier.
Presentation; Light-jet or ink-jet print on both glossy and metallic substrate (size flexible)
I like combining digital manipulation with mark making, and sometimes work into the surface of a photographic print by scratching with metal implements. The photograph above does not have any physical scratching, but it introduced me to the idea of experimenting in this way, as some of the brush strokes had that quality.
Presentation; Projection, as large as environment permits.
I made the marks in pencil for this amazingly quickly with no pause or break in the motion, so it is kind of surprising it looks restful. You can't see in this size image, but there are tiny white particles throughout the blackness, which made me think of stars; hence the title.
Objective: To reinterpret my plasticine modelling by translating it into a flat image through experimenting with various digital manipulations. I will be using black acrylic paint on a second version of this, and experimenting further along this vein.
